Scientific studies show that our diet is not only a key factor for good health, but also one of the most contributing drivers of climate change. The reality is that the average dietary patterns we follow nowadays in high-income countries is neither healthy nor sustainable. Several entities, such as the World Health Organization (WHO) among others, urge a global dietary change in favour of diets that are beneficial to both our health and the health of the planet. This change is critical to achieving many of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and limiting future climate change. However, dietary changes are not easy to achieve and few studies promoting eating behaviour change have focused so far on the promotion of a sustainable healthy diet as a whole, instead, previous studies have mainly targeted specific food groups, such as reduction in meat consumption.

Through this study, we want to know if behavioural change strategies, implemented through SMSs, could be effective to promote a change in individuals’ daily eating behaviours, towards healthier and more sustainable choices. To achieve this, we will conduct a 6 months long pilot intervention where participants will receive SMSs on a daily basis to motivate and educate them to adopt healthier and sustainable eating behaviours.
