What We Are Looking for

ISGlobal is seeking a Data Manager who is interested in joining the Biostatistics and Data Management group (UBIOESDM), taking over and managing activities related to data management of several research projects managed by the UBIOESDM, in collaboration with other members of the data management team and with the support of the Data Manager Coordinator.
The mission of the ISGlobal UBIOESDM is to offer advice, services and training in data management and statistical analysis to the projects in the areas of biomedical, clinical or environmental research.
This support encompasses the entire life cycle of data. This includes the creation, management, analysis, preservation and sharing of data, with the aim of transforming the collected information into knowledge.
To meet all these needs, the UBIOESDM is made up of data manager technicians and data analysts.

Key Responsibilities

This Data Manager will – with the support of the ISGlobal Data Manager Coordinator - plan and design, implement, coordinate, supervise and give support on research data management activities related to some of the research projects managed at UBIOESDM. The role will require collaboration with international project partners from a range of disciplines as well as researchers at ISGlobal.

Specific Duties

  • Design and maintain electronic data collection instruments according to the study Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Case Report Forms (CRF).
  • Setup or support the data Quality Assurance and Control (QA/QC) mechanisms (data quality rules) to validate captured data. 
  • Code scripts to produce routine progress and data quality reports to inform the team on the status of the data collection activities and address data quality issues. Prepare data reports about specific queries coming from the team or external bodies.
  • Train implementing partners on the eCRF and data QA/QC tools according to the defined data management SOP.
  • Support implementing partners on electronic data collection tools during data collection activities.
  • Work on the studies data curation and archival. 
  • Train and support other studies in data curation and archival at the ISGlobal research data repository.
  • Code scripts or develop applications to connect different data sources or systems.
  • Administer the Clinical Data Management Systems (CDMS) in place (REDCap, OpenClinica, LibreClinica, KoboToolbox, ODK…) and the research data repository (Dataverse).

Auxiliar tasks

  • Define, maintain and execute the Data Management Plan (DMP) and Data Validation Plan (DVP) for each research project according to the study protocols, the context of each of the implementing partners and specific regulations and/or good practices.
  • Write specific data management SOP based on the electronic Case Report Form (eCRF) and the data QA/QC tools in place.
  • Administer (with support from ISGlobal IT Team) the data architecture and servers where the data systems are hosted.

Training and experience /Qualifications

  • Degree / master in Computer Science, Engineering, Bioinformatics or similar background
  • Experience 2-4 years preferred but open to junior candidates

Specific Requirements

  • It is desired that the candidate meets as many of the following criteria as possible:
  • Experience on research data management activities
  • Experience in processing and managing of data/ research data
  • Development experience in one or more general purpose programming languages:  java, R, Shiny, Python…
  • Experience with front end applications 
  • Knowledge of data servers, services and databases
  • Knowledge of CDMS systems: REDCap, OpenClinica, LibreClinica, KoboToolbox, ODK…
  • Knowledge of data curation process and data repository systems: dataverse
  • Server administration skills (linux, apache)
  • Familiar with GitHub, Trello and/or other collaborative tools

Language level

  • Spanish / Catalan
  • Be fluent in spoken and written English (B2 or higher)
  • Knowledge of Portuguese / French will be valued

Conditions

  • Duration: Permanent
  • Starting date: As soon as possible
  • Contract: Full time
  • Salary Range: 30k -33k
  • Full time position based in Barcelona

Training & Career development opportunities

  • Availability to eventually travel to project sites (Europe, Africa, Latin America)

Selection Process

The selection process is designed in two phases:


1- Interview phase of a technical nature, with the team that requires the incorporation. To assess the person's skills and CV.
2 - Meeting with HR with the finalist(s) to finish assessing the profile and discuss contractual and institutional issues.


If needed any technical test could be pass. A Psychological Competency Evaluation Test will be required for the structural or transversal positions.
In accordance with the OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for every vacancy at the beginning of the process. After reviewing the content of the applications, the panel will start the interviews, with at least one technical and one administrative interview. A profile questionnaire as well as a technical exercise may be required during the process.
