The Manhiça Health Research Centre (CISM) Annual Global Health Lecture in Maputo

Trevor Mundel gives keynote address on behalf of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

More than 150 people attended the annual Palestra of the Manhiça Health Research Centre (CISM) at the Faculty of Medicine of the University Eduardo Mondlane in Maputo. The guest speaker at this annual global health event was Dr. Trevor Mundel, President of the Global Health Program at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Dr Mundel spoke about recent advances in global health and the opportunities and challenges that enliven this field today.

The event was moderated by the President of the Manhiça Foundation, Pascoal Mocumbi, and the speaker was Dr. Inácio Mandomando, a CISM researcher, who presented a paper entitled Paediatric Diarrhoea: burden of disease, aetiology and development of new strategies for prevention and control.

Befor Dr. Mundel's talk, the seminar had been opened with presentations by Dr. Eusebio Macete, director of CISM, and Professor Orlando Quilambo, Rector of the Eduardo Mondlane University.

CISM is a non-profit Mozambican organisation that carries out biomedical research in priority areas aimed at improving the health of the most vulnerable populations. The Centre was founded in 1996 with the support of Barcelona's Hospital Clínic under the leadership of Dr. Pedro Alonso.
