Delegation from Equatorial Guinean Ministry of Health and Social Welfare Visits ISGlobal

ISGlobal’s executive team met with the delegation to explore possible areas for collaboration

16.05.2018

A delegation from the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of Equatorial Guinea, led by Vice Minister Mitoha Ondo’o Ayecaba, met with executive team of the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) at the organisation’s Clínic campus. The objective of the meeting was to give the delegation a first-hand look at how a global research and knowledge-transfer centre operates and to explore the possibility of ISGlobal taking part in an advisory committee to the ministry that would eventually led to the creation of a public-health research institute in Equatorial Guinea.

The Vice Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Mitoha Ondo’o Ayecaba, was accompanied by Alicia Oye Nsue, National Mental Health Programme Director; Florentino Abaga Ondo, Head of Cabinet; Lucía Angono Obama, Executive Assistant; and Carlos Cortes, Country Director for Equatorial Guinea at Medical Care Development International (MCDI), a centre that collaborates with the ministry on a malaria-control project on the island of Bioko.

For the past year, as part of the Equatorial Guinea Malaria Vaccine Initiative (EGMVI), ISGlobal has been collaborating with MCDI and the Equatorial Guinean Ministry of Health and Social Welfare on graduate-level (master and PhD) training activities for Equatorial Guinean professionals and researchers as well as on the development of training courses on bioethics, biostatistics and epidemiology that will be taught in Equatorial Guinea.
