The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. Research is organized in five programs: Climate, Air Pollution, Nature and Urban Health; Environment and Health over the Lifecourse; Global Viral and Bacterial Infections; Malaria and Neglected Parasitic Diseases and Maternal Child and Reproductive Health. ISGlobal is accredited with the Severo Ochoa distinction, a seal of excellence of the Spanish Science Ministry.

What We Are Looking for

ISGlobal is seeking a Technical Officer who is interested to join MESA, a malaria knowledge hub. MESA is an inclusive and collaborative alliance of malaria research, policy, and implementation partners dedicated to advancing the science of malaria. First launched in 2012 with the support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), MESA is based on the concept that an optimized, funded, and evolving malaria research agenda is critical for defeating malaria and eventually, global eradication. The MESA Team is based at the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal).
 

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE /QUALIFICATIONS

  • Higher education in global health/public health/tropical medicine or related topics. 
  • Experience in processing and managing data and inputting data into content management systems.
  • Extensive experience in malaria research.
     

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of malaria or other infectious diseases;
  • Experience in entering data into content management systems;
     

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Data analysis:

- Conduct in-depth analyses on specific topics (i.e., MESA Track Deep Dives, literature and desk reviews, landscape mappings, policy reviews, etc.) as required by strategic priorities
Identify thematic areas that could benefit from a Deep Dive exercise
-Systematically enter and update thematic areas or portfolios of the MESA Track database according to priorities
-Train others in supporting this work
-Elaborate reports or publications of the analyzed data when required.
-Present MESA’s findings to the Partners or specialized Fora. 

  • Supporting Partnerships

-Technical Officer will strengthen relationships with partners, and institutions by identifying and working with their focal points of contacts.
-Lead planning, prioritization and onboarding of new partner groups 
-Lead planning and organization of Communities of Practice

  • Communication:

-Provide content generation and update of other components of the MESA website particularly the Resource Hub
-Inputs to the MESA newsletter
-Promote topics for discussions and disseminate findings with different societies such as ASTMH, ECTMIH, PAMCA, MIM
-Support the development of the MESA activities

  • Support the day-to-day activities of the project by developing materials, reports, etc. as needed
  • Coordinate and oversee the structure and content of the MESA Resource Hub

LANGUAGE LEVEL

  • Excellent spoken and written English and Spanish. French and Catalan desirable.
     

CONDITIONS

  • Duration: until 31st December 2025     
  • Starting date:    15th January 2024
  • Contract: Part time  (at least 28h a week) or full time
  • Salary Range: Compensation for this position will be based on the applicant’s experience and qualificatios.
  • The position starts immediately.

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process is designed in two phases:
1- Interview phase of a technical nature, with the team that requires the incorporation. To assess the person's skills and CV.
2 - Meeting with HR with the finalist(s) to finish assessing the profile and discuss contractual and institutional issues.

If needed any technical test could be pass. A Psychological Competency Evaluation Test will be required for the structural or transversal positions.

In accordance with the OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for every vacancy at the beginning of the process. After reviewing the content of the applications, the panel will start the interviews, with at least one technical and one administrative interview. A profile questionnaire as well as a technical exercise may be required during the process.
