Job offer: Postdoctoral researcher in Medical Radiation Group

What We Are Looking for

ISGlobal is seeking a Post-Doctoral Researcher to join the Medical Radiation Group   to work on the HARMONIC “Health effects of cArdiac fluoRoscopy and MOderN radIotherapy in paediatriCs” project, and coordinate its implementation in Spanish Hospitals. The researcher is expected to participate in different aspects of the project, involving data collection, management and analysis, writing scientific papers and reports, organizing and attending meetings. A strong background in radiation and medical sciences is required.

ISGlobal Radiation Programme is one of the leading programmes in radiation epidemiology in Europe with overall objective to better understand the potential risks associated to exposure to radiation and serve radiation protection. The ISGlobal Medical Radiation Group was created in 2017 to foster activities on the effects of exposure to medical ionizing in particular in pediatric patients.

About the project:

ISGlobal is looking for a Post Doctoral Researcher to work within the Medical Radiation Group on the HARMONIC project ‘This project has received funding from the Euratom research and training programme 2014-2018 under grant agreement No 847707. The project, coordinated at ISGlobal, aims at better understanding the long-term health effects of medical exposure to ionizing radiation in children, specifically those undergoing radiotherapy for cancer or X-ray guided imaging for treatment of cardiac disorders. It will build European cohorts and registries for long-term follow up of these patients. The position is open specifically to set-up the Spanish cohort of cardiac patients and investigate the potential risk of developing cancer later in life.

Training and experience/Qualifications

  • A PhD in either Medical Sciences, Radiation Epidemiology or Medical Physics
  • Expertise in the other fields is an asset.
  • Analytical and data management skills 

Specific Requirements

  • Previous research on medical exposures to radiation is an asset
  • Reconstruction of doses from medical exposures desirable

Key Responsibilities

The main tasks will be to coordinate implementation of data collection in Spain and analyse and interpret dosimetric and epidemiological data, to write manuscripts, in collaboration with other members of the team and project consortium. The successful candidate is expected to participate in the scientific discussion of other projects. Good integration in the team environment is essential.

Specific Duties

  • Collaborate with partners of the HARMONIC project and more specifically WP3 (cardiology) and WP4 (dosimetry) leaders
  • Write scientific papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Preparation of project deliverables.
  • Present results in scientific conferences and meetings

Language level

Selection Process

The selection process is designed in two phases:
1- Interview phase of a technical nature, with the team that requires the incorporation. To assess the person's skills and CV.
2 - Meeting with HR with the finalist(s) to finish assessing the profile and discuss contractual and institutional issues.

If needed any technical test could be pass. A Psychological Competency Evaluation Test will be required for the structural or transversal positions.

In accordance with the OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for every vacancy at the beginning of the process. A profile questionnaire as well as a technical exercise may be required during the process.
