Description
The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. Research is organized in three main areas, Malaria and other Infectious Diseases, Child and Maternal Health, and Urban Health, Climate & Non-Communicable Diseases. ISGlobal is accredited with the Severo Ochoa distinction, a seal of excellence of the Spanish Science Ministry.
The poject
The BiSC project (www.projectebisc.org) is a new generation cohort lead by the Childhood and Environment Programme (https://www.isglobal.org/en/-/salud-infantil). In BiSC, we have assessed prenatal exposure to several environmental factors (including air pollution and noise), behavior/lifestyle and health of pregnant women and fetal and postnatal development. We have also collected a number of biological samples from the mother, father and child, including saliva, blood, urine, hair, nails, meconium, stool, vaginal swabs, placenta, cord blood. We are a very active team of more than 20 researchers and technicians, including data scientists, health professionals, biologist, epidemiologists and psychologists. The BiSC team is co-lead by five PIs (Jordi Sunyer, Payam Dadvand, Maria Foraster, Ioar Rivas and Mireia Gascon) and one staff scientist, Mariona Bustamante.

Eligibility criteria

- Doctoral degree two to seven years prior to the deadline.
- Researchers may be of any nationality.
- Candidates must have resided or have carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Spain for more than twelve months in the three years immediately preceding the closing date of the call.
- Researchers are expected to be experts in the field/topic chosen (see description above regarding research lines in BiSC).
- Please take into account that these fellowships are for “Excellent researchers”, which implies a record and an exceptional résumé.
