Efectividad de una intervención de entrenamiento urbano en pacientes con enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica (EPOC): ensayo controlado aleatorizado

Project Code: PI11/01283

Duration

Funded by
Fondo de Investigación Sanitaria (FIS) / Instituto Carlos III (ISCIII) — Project Code: PI11/01283

The practice of physical activity improves prognosis in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, there are no effective interventions to maintain or achieve adequate levels of physical activity in these patients.

This project proposes a training intervention using public spaces and urban routes, appropriate to the needs and abilities of each patient. In fact, the main objective is to study the effectiveness to 12 months after surgery compared to income from COPD, physical activity, exercise capacity, body composition, quality of life and mental health. Other objectives are to identify and classify urban circuits for the training of COPD patients, and study the cost-effectiveness of the intervention.

The study involved 1,300 patients with COPD of 54 health centers and hospitals in Barcelona, Badalona, Mataró and Viladecans. All patients should be advised to walk at least 5 days a week in urban appropriate for the patient, and will be encouraged to stay active through SMS messages to mobile phones.
