Elena Moreno is pharmacist from Spain (Madrid), with a Master degree in Public Health by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSTHM), a Master degree in Clinical Trials Monitoring and Diploma in International Cooperation Project Cycle Management.

She has more than fifteen years of experience working in the area of clinical trials with different roles such as project manager, clinical trials manager, clinical trial monitor, and pharmacovigilance specialist. Six years of work were conducted full time in African countries (Tanzania and Namibia). Other consultancies were performed in Gabon and Mozambique.

She has the enriching point of having worked in multiple contexts and for different sectors including pharmaceutical industries, health research institutes, non-governmental organizations, a Ministry of Health and Public Hospitals.

In 2000 she started her professional career in Merck Sharp & Dohme working during eight years in the area of HIV and oncology clinical trials. Between 2009-2011 she worked in Namibia where she implemented the Pharmacovigilance system into the Public Health programs at the Ministry of Health (Management Sciences for Health/USAID). In 2012 she joined Ifakara Health Institute (Tanzania) where she worked as senior clinical trials coordinator for malaria vaccine and drug studies, including controlled human malaria infection (CHMI).

Since 2015 she has performed two consultancies in the Maternal, Child and Reproductive Health Initiative of ISGlobal for malaria preventive interventions in pregnancy.

Elena currently works as the Project Manager of the Unitaid-funded BOHEMIA project.
