The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation to policy and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. Research is organized in three main areas, Malaria and other Infectious Diseases, Child and Maternal Health, and Urban Health, Climate & Non-Communicable Diseases. What We Are Looking for

We are seeking applicants for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, to expand expertise in Data Science/Big Data.

Candidates are expected to develop primary research, and promote interactions in ISGlobal.

Posts are based at ISGlobal with an anticipated start date in mid-late-2020.

Candidates will be provided with a start-up grant to develop the group that includes a position for a postdoc for 3 years. 


The primary responsibilities are to create a research group in ISGlobal that should develop and apply methods in data mining, machine learning and/or AI, to allow analysis and interpretation of complex biomedical and exposome data handled in ISGlobal, including multi-omics data, multidimensional biomarkers, health services data, phenotypic information on infections and NCDs, and environmental and climate data.

Candidates should collaborate across ISGlobal, publish scholarly work, and obtain grant funding to support research. Candidates should teach at the masters and doctorate level and participate in advancing the strategic goals of ISGlobal in policy transfer and innovation. 


Candidates must have an earned doctorate in computer sciences/mathematics, epidemiology, biostatistics, biomedicine or a related discipline by the position start date, a record of peer reviewed publications and experience in teaching graduate-level courses in topic area. Candidates must demonstrate potential for obtaining external research funding.
