The Barcelona Institute for Global Health, ISGlobal, is the fruit of an innovative alliance between academic, government, and philanthropic institutions to contribute to the efforts undertaken by the international community to address the challenges in global health, through research, translation to policy and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. Research is organized in three main areas, Malaria and other Infectious Diseases, Child and Maternal Health, and Urban Health, Climate & Non-Communicable Diseases. ISGlobal is the first global public health centre to have received the Severo Ochoa distinction, a seal of excellence of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation.
ISGlobal is looking for a motivated postdoctoral researcher to work on the ATHLETE (Advancing Tools for Human Early Lifecourse Exposome Research and Translation) project. ATHLETE project has received funding from H2020 (grant agreement 874583) and aims to implement the exposome in birth cohorts in order to study the effects of a wide range of community-level and individual-level environmental risk factors on mental, cardiometabolic, and respiratory health outcomes and associated biological pathways during the first 2 decades of life. The postdoctoral researcher will be involved on several analyses linking the exposome and health outcomes and will join the Statistics task force of the project, contributing to develop and apply new methodologies to deal with exposome (high-dimensional) data.
Main duties and tasks:
- Review available statistical methods and assess their suitability to be applied to ATHLETE data. Particular areas of interest include methods for high-dimensional data, causal inference, methods to quantify the effects of mixtures of pollutants, methods for longitudinal analysis and machine learning.
- Contribute to the creation of new statistical methods to address ATHLETE questions.
- Contribute to the writing of tutorials for data analysis in the exposome context.
- Write epidemiological papers linking the exposome and health outcomes.
Training and experience:
- PhD in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Public Health, Data Science or related disciplines.
- Experience in complex statistical analyses, including models with correlated data and longitudinal analysis.
- Experience in environmental epidemiology studies.
- Responsible, flexible and with problem solving skills.
- Teamplayer, yet capable of working autonomously, rational thinker.
- Eager to learn and proactive.
- Excellent organization skills.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
- Duration : 2 years (can be extended)
- Contract full time.
