What We Are Looking for

In the framework of Peris Go Europe Project “Go-INTERNATIONAL - Lideratge internacional de la Unitat de Projectes d’ISGlobal” (SLT028/23/000037) funded by Ministry of Health, Government of Catalonia, ISGlobal is seeking an Impact Manager to support researchers in the preparation of proposals,  particularly the impact section, as well as in identifying and documenting impact of past and ongoing research projects. He/she will also support open science and gender aspects.
Impact is a key requisite in the Horizon Europe programme. Beyond the more traditional view of impact through patents and IPR, proposals need to address how to generate social impact, policy changes, adoption of new practices, etc. Impact is also a key element in the new researcher evaluation processes that are being implemented in Europe (e.g. CoARA). At the local level, demonstrating impact has also become relevant for institutional evaluation (CERCA’s impact initiative). Preparing this material requires specific knowledge and experience. 

The Impact Manager will be part of the Projects Unit and will work closely with the Communication Department.

Training and experience /Qualifications

  • University degree; preferably but not necessarily in Health / Life Sciences.
  • Verifiable successful experience in scientific / technical writing, proofreading, editing, or other equivalent written communication formats.
  • Knowledge of the European funding schemes (such as H2020, Horizon Europe).
  • Experience working in a research center will be valued.
  • Experience in budget management will be valued.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Fluent in English. 
  • Knowledge of Spanish or Catalan will be an asset..

Specific Requirements

  • Proven abilities in understanding, evidencing and communicating the impact of academic research.
  • Ability in translating complex ideas to non-academic audiences.
  •  Familiar with the Responsible Research and Innovation approach: participatory research, open access strategy, public participation, ethics, gender questions, etc.

 

Key Responsibilities

Raise impact literacy at ISGlobal
 - Coordinate training and guidance about research impact and its strategic importance to research staff, technicians, as well as to managing and support staff.
- Conduct an institutional health-check of impact and provide recommendations for improvement 
 

Maximise impact of ISGlobal research  
- Establish and manage a system to record, monitor, evaluate and publish ISGlobal’s research impact.
- Collaborate within the pre-awards team to assist with the preparation of the impact sections of research grant proposals.
- Support the development and implementation of the institutional research impact strategy.
- Review current and emerging trends on impact assessment, contribute and advise on best practices.
 

Give visibility to the impact of ISGlobal research
- Establish strong working relationships with research colleagues to help them document and communicate the impact of their research.
- Liaise with researchers and the communications team to develop and showcase impact case studies  

 

The post holder will adhere to ISGlobal principles contained in People management policy, including Equity, diversity and health safety. The post holder will respect, and be accountable to ensure ISGlobal policies and procedures .
 

Language level

  • Fluent English; knowledge of Spanish or Catalan will be an asset 
  • Excellent writing, analytical and communications skills in English are essential. 

Selection Process

The selection process is designed in two phases:
1- Interview phase of a technical nature, with the team that requires the incorporation. To assess the person's skills and CV.
2 - Meeting with HR with the finalist(s) to finish assessing the profile and discuss contractual and institutional issues.

If deemed necessary, a technical task could be requested. 
A Psychological Competency Evaluation Test will be required for the structural or transversal positions.

In accordance with the OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for every vacancy at the beginning of the process. After reviewing the content of the applications, the panel will start the interviews, with at least one technical and one administrative interview.
