What We Are Looking for

ISGlobal is seeking 1 technician to work on the EXPONIT study. The main objective of the EXPONIT study is to examine how environmental, lifestyle and work-place exposures impacts cardiovascular health, cardiometabolic health and aging. Of key interest is how exposure to light during the nighttime, and the corresponding circadian rhythm disruption, impacts health. This study will collect data on both participants who are engaged in night shift work and also a comparison group of participants who are day shift workers. We will collect data from participants using questionnaires, sensors (a series of environmental, chemical, activity and heart rate sensors), biological specimens and short interviews. Participants in this study will be workers in Barcelona. 

Key Responsibilities

Manage the scheduling of data collection for participants in the study, manage the allocation of sensors and the prompt collection of these sensors after their use, manage biologic sample transport and storage, and maintain close communication between the field centers and reserachers at ISGlobal. 

Specific Duties

  • Contact the potential study participants by phone. 
  • Preparation of materials and devices for measurements. 
  • Visit to the participants' workplace to:

- Oversee survey completion
- Distribute, describe and model appropriate sensor use
- Pick up sensor devices
- Oversee biologic specimen collection

  • Blood processing (centrifugation and aliquoting)
  • Download data from sensor devices
  • Prepare materials for shipment to the laboratory
  • Communicate closely with management at the field study locations and with the study team at ISGlobal

Required competences

  • Experience in handling epidemiological data 
  • Motivated person, with communication skills 
  • Time flexibility to adapt to the availability of the study participants
  • Great organizational skills. 
  • Clear communication skills

  • Problem resolution

Language level

  • Fluent in Spanish and Catalan required
  • Basic level of English required, higher level preferred

Preferred training and experience

  • Previous experience in conducting field work for epidemiological studies preferred.

Conditions

  • Full time,
  • 6-month temporary contract.
  • Capacity to travel around Barcelona.
  • Flexible working hours, possibility to work at night.
  • Preferably driver’s license.
