The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. Research is organized in five programs: Climate, Air Pollution, Nature and Urban Health; Environment and Health over the Lifecourse; Global Viral and Bacterial Infections; Malaria and Neglected Parasitic Diseases and Maternal Child and Reproductive Health. About MESA

MESA  —  The Malaria Knowledge Hub, is an initiative hosted by the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal), with a mission to share knowledge and catalyze research towards a malaria-free world. To achieve this, MESA works along three strategic areas:
Mapping the landscape of active malaria research projects including operational research.
Creating effective avenues for malaria researchers and professionals to use emerging data for advocacy, decision-making, policy and strategies.
Synthesizing evidence to bridge knowledge gaps.
 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are seeking a Communications Officer to join the MESA team. The successful candidate will lead the implementation of MESA’s communication strategy and support the team with diverse tasks aimed at enhancing the malaria knowledge hub’s visibility. The role is expected to be either at full or part time.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES

  • Plan and implement communication activities to raise awareness about MESA’s work.
  • Participate in developing compelling content for the website, social media, presentations, and reports and review content to be published.
  • Manage MESA’s social media platforms and prepare regular briefings, providing insights on performance and recommendations for improvement.
  • Manage MESA’s newsletters and audiences.
  • Work with website developers to manage and update the MESA website and implement measures to optimise it.
  • Create event-related communication materials, including visuals, slide decks, and post-event reports.
  • Track trends in social impact communications, take initiative to implement new ideas, and foster relationships with MESA’s partners and the wider community.
  • Provide technical and strategic communications support to other members, as needed. 
  • Ensure consistency in branding across all communications.
     

REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 2 years of experience in social impact communications.
  • University degree in communications, journalism, or related field. Previous experience in global health or science communications will be valued.
  • Native-level of English.  French, Spanish, Catalan and other languages are an added advantage.
     

SKILLS

  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Proven experience in building social media communities, with a track record in increasing engagement levels.
  • Familiarity with Wordpress and SEO.
  • Familiarity with managing audiences and developing newsletters using Mailchimp or similar platforms.
  • Experience in producing graphics using Canva or Photoshop.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Skilled at translating analytics into insights and recommendations for enhanced digital communications.

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process is designed in two phases:
1- Interview phase of a technical nature, with the team that requires the incorporation. To assess the person's skills and CV.
2 - Meeting with HR with the finalist(s) to finish assessing the profile and discuss contractual and institutional issues.
 
If needed, any technical test could be passed. A Psychological Competency Evaluation Test will be required for the structural or transversal positions.
 
In accordance with the OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for every vacancy at the beginning of the process. After reviewing the content of the applications, the panel will start the interviews, with at least one technical and one administrative interview. A profile questionnaire as well as a technical exercise may be required during the process.
