Taller de Chagas
VIII Workshop on Imported Chagas Disease
03.05.2012
03.05.2012
Chagas disease, caused by the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma cruzi, is endemic in Central and South America. Despite the implementation of vector control programmes and screening measures in blood banks and maternity wards, an estimated 8 million people are infected with T. cruzi.
One of the challenges faced by our health care system is to care for and treat patients with Chagas disease. The value of specific antiparasitic treatment is a much debated issue due to the high frequency of adverse effects associated with such treatment and doubts about its effectiveness in patients with chronic disease.
The VIII Workshop on Imported Chagas Disease will review, expand on, and update our knowledge about antiparasitic treatment and its scientific basis, report on advances made in recent years, and discuss new approaches to the treatment of this neglected disease.
Who should attend?
The VIII Workshop on Imported Chagas Disease is aimed at all categories of health professionals, including doctors, nurses, biologists, parasitologists, anthropologists, epidemiologists, and health sciences students.
