7th ECTMIH
BARCELONA TO HOST THE 7TH EUROPEAN CONGRESS OF TROPICAL MEDICINE AND INTERNATIONAL HEALTH
This edition's theme is "Global change, migration and health"
09.15.11
Global change, migration and health will be the theme of the 7th European Congress of Tropical Medicine and International Health to be held at the International Convention Center of Barcelona (CCIB) in October.
More than one thousand specialists will meet in Barcelona during the four-day conference (October 3-6, 2011) to discuss a wide range of topics related to tropical medicine and global health.
The 7th edition of the congress, which takes place every two years under the auspices of the Federation of European Societies for Tropical Medicine and International Health (FESTMIH), is being organized by ISGlobal through its investigation arm, the Barcelona Centre for International Health Research (CRESIB).
The fact that over 1,100 abstracts were received in response to the call for papers is a clear indication of the enormous interest generated by this event, a meeting place for the members of tropical medicine and international health societies from 13 countries.
The congress will be chaired by Dr Nuria Casamitjana, Director of Training at ISGLOBAL and Technical Director of CRESIB, and Dr Manuel Corachán, who is seen as the father of tropical medicine in Spain.
The sessions will be divided into five broad subject areas:
- Infectious and neglected diseases
- Women's and children's health
- Chronic diseases and environmental health
- Health systems and resources
- Global migration, conflicts, and population health
Plenary Sessions
ISGlobal has also organized four plenary sessions, one for each day of the congress, as follows:
- Women's health: delivering beyond 2015. Challenges and strategies.
- New financing mechanisms for health: are they making a difference or just complicating the aid architecture?
- The science of elimination
- Global change, migration, and health: the way forward
