New Members of the ISGlobal Team

Teresa Aguado, Fidel Font and Regina Rabinovich will contribute their knowledge and their extensive experience in the field of global health

06.03.2013

The ISGlobal team keeps growing, and we would like to welcome the most recent new additions, Dr Teresa Aguado, Dr Fidel Font and Dr Regina Rabinovich—three professionals who are distinguished both in their respective fields of expertise and in the global health sector.

Dr Aguado, who holds a doctorate in immunology from the University of Barcelona, worked for over twenty years with the World Health Organisation (WHO), and during the last fourteen coordinated vaccine product R&D within the Initiative for Vaccine Research. She also played an important role in the creation of a number of public-private partnerships formed to further the development of vaccines. Before joining the WHO, Dr Aguado had done basic research in autoimmune diseases and immunological tolerance for more than 11 years. In this new stage in her career, she will advise ISGlobal on projects related to vaccines and immunisation.

Dr Font—one of the first researchers sent to Africa by the Hospital Clínic in the nineteen nineties—returns to ISGlobal to take up the position of Public Health Specialist. In Africa, he gained valuable  experience for his later role in CRESIB, ISGlobal and the Manhiça Research Centre, of which he was a founder. Dr Font has also held positions of responsibility in institutions such as the Red Cross and the University of Geneva, giving him a broad experience in humanitarian medicine and cooperation. His future work in ISGlobal will be related to technical cooperation and he will work closely with the training department to further develop our training programme.

Dr Rabinovich, a global health executive with over 25 years' experience in research, public health and philanthropy, will be joining ISGlobal as a Visiting Scholar while also working as Malaria Scholar in Residence at Harvard University. She was previously Director of the Infectious Diseases Program at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and prior to that the Director of the Malaria Vaccine Initiative for PATH. She has also held various positions at the U.S.  National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
