ISGlobal and the Mundo Sano Foundation Renew Their Commitment to the Fight Against NTDs

New agreement increases current collaboration and adds new activities related to innovation and development

24.05.2017

The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) and the Mundo Sano Foundation have signed a strategic collaborative partnership to further strengthen the activities they have been working on jointly since 2011 in the fight against neglected tropic diseases (NTDs) The aim of this agreement is to contribute new, safe and effective solutions for the prevention and treatment of these diseases, promoting equity in health and improving health conditions for the world's most vulnerable populations, particularly in Africa y Latin America.

NTDs affect one in every six inhabitants on our planet and millions of people are at risk of contracting these diseases every year. Through this partnership, both institutions will strengthen their existing collaboration in research, training and international cooperation and will launch new activities in both innovation and development focussed on three areas: Chagas disease, diseases caused by helminths, and the use of pharmacological molecules to fight NTDs. Other planned actions include training, information diffusion, and raising awareness about these diseases to maximise the impact of the other activities.

The collaboration between the two organisations dates back to their first agreement signed in 2011. Since then, in addition to research collaboration and joint efforts to forge notable alliances such as the Chagas Coalition, the two organisations have worked together on various projects. Mundo Sano Foundation has provided continuous support for the annual Chagas Workshop organised by ISGlobal, which has become a key international event in the field, and for several scientific studies as well as projects promoting social awareness related to Chagas disease, helminth infections and malaria.
