ISGlobal has renewed its collaboration agreement with the Business Alliance for Child Vaccination, created in 2008 by the ”la Caixa” Banking Foundation and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance to promote child immunisation in developing countries and help save the lives of millions of children. The new agreement was signed by representatives of the three institutions: Jaume Giró, CEO of the ”la Caixa” Banking Foundation, Marie-Ange Saraka-Yao, Managing Director for Resource Mobilisation and Private Sector Partnerships at Gavi, and Antoni Plasència, Director of the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal).

This collaboration agreement promotes corporate social responsibility in Spain by helping Spanish companies collaborate with Gavi in the fight against child mortality in the poorest regions of the planet and guaranteeing that any donated funds will go entirely to child vaccination efforts.

Throughout 2017, ISGlobal will work with other partners to raise awareness about childhood vaccination in the public and private sectors in Spain, contributing their experience to optimise the campaigns and to raise funds for the initiative.

Thanks to contributions from 2,434 companies and individuals, the Alliance has raised more than €23 million and more than 4 million children have been vaccinated in remote areas of Africa and Latin America with limited access to healthcare.

Because of ISGlobal’s long history in the field of maternal and child health, its experience in coordinating the Secretariat for the Decade of Vaccines Collaboration and its participation, together with Gavi, in a study on the impact of the pneumococcal vaccine on Mozambique, the Institute collaborates with the “la Caixa” Banking Foundation as a strategic partner on a childhood vaccination project that was created in 2014 and has been renewed annually ever since.

ISGlobal has been a member of the Civil Society Organisation Steering Committee for Gavi since August 2016. The 19 members of the committee are responsible for coordinating the activities of the more than 3,000 organisations that belong to the Gavi CSO Constituency.
